Transform Housing & Support has started work on a development of 12 new flats for people with learning disabilities in the London Borough of Sutton.
Our Camperdown Court project will create specialist supported housing where people with learning disabilities can live independently in the community.
Modern new flats
The new flats will replace our existing shared housing at Camperdown House, which is old-fashioned and no longer fit for purpose. We have demolished part of the existing building to make space to build 12 modern, self-contained flats.
Clients living at Camperdown House will move to the new flats once they are complete. Each person will have their own flat with a bedroom, bathroom, living space, kitchen, and garden or balcony.
Homes for life
Crucially, the accommodation at Camperdown Court will be adaptable to meet the changing needs of the clients as they get older. For example each flat will have a wet room and the facility to install a hoist if needed. This means that people will be able to live in their new home for as long as they wish, giving them a home for life.
There is a real need for more supported housing for people with learning disabilities in the area, particularly as people get older. The project has the support of the London Borough of Sutton and Transform is working closely with the council on this project.
Building chances
We started building the new flats earlier this year and they are due to be completed in early 2016. The project is part of Transform’s Building Chances development programme, which is creating new supported housing for local people in need.
Transform has a fundraising target of £250,000 for the Camperdown Court project and has already raised £75,000 thanks to generous donations from the Story of Christmas and the Ingram Trust.
