Older residents in Reigate are set to benefit from new safety equipment, improved communal spaces and expanded activities after a local foundation has awarded an £18,000 donation to Transform. The funding, presented following visits to the services by representatives from the Bryan and June Amos Foundation, will fully finance a programme of improvements across Transform’s sheltered housing schemes in the area.
The Foundation, which last year donated £10,000 to Transform’s Reigate services, mainly supports initiatives that benefit older people in the Reigate and Redhill area. It honours the legacy of Bryan and June Amos, who asked that their estate be used to improve the lives and wellbeing of local elderly residents.
After meeting staff and residents and learning more about Transform’s work, Foundation Trustee Donald Morley presented Reigate Sheltered Service colleagues with a cheque for a further £18,000.
Transform’s values align perfectly with our mission and we were so impressed by what you are providing for older people in Reigate that we unanimously agreed to fund your full improvement plan proposal,” he said. “There was absolutely no question at all – this is exactly the kind of service our late friends Bryan and June would have wanted their money to support.
During the visit, Foundation representatives met residents and heard first-hand about life in the sheltered schemes. Residents spoke about the difference the improvements would make to their daily lives.
It’s unusual to have the opportunity to meet the individuals who will directly benefit from the Foundation’s donations, so that was particularly meaningful for us,” Mr Morley added.
Manager of Transform’s Reigate sheltered housing schemes, Wendy Cresswell said the organisation was honoured to receive the funding.
“These improvements will make a meaningful difference to residents’ wellbeing, independence and day-to-day enjoyment of their homes,” she explained. “We extend our sincere thanks to the Bryan and June Amos Foundation for their trust and generosity and we look forward to welcoming them back to see the impact their support has made.”
In recognition of the Foundation’s support, Transform plans to install commemorative plaques on garden benches and name guest rooms in honour of Bryan and June Amos, ensuring their legacy is recognised and continues to benefit local residents for years to come.
