Weight conscious staff at Runnymede Civic Centre have clubbed together to lose weight and raise money for homeless charity Transform Housing & Support.
The group, affectionately known as ‘Fat Fighters’ has been meeting since 2011 and pay £1 each week to get weighed. Some joined the group to help keep an eye on their weight, others to lose a few extra pounds for a holiday or special occasion. The group raised an excellent £400 for the charity which will go towards supporting this years’ Winter Shelter.
Runnymede Council’s Senior Environmental Health Officer, Helen Jones who has taken the role of weighing and recording the members’ weight said:
“This is a great light hearted way of keeping tabs on our weight while raising money for worthwhile causes”
Charities selected for donations are always local and all have a special place in one of the members’ hearts. Aileen Baker who selected Transform Housing was very touched when she learnt from a colleague of the great work carried out and the impact that they can have on lives at times when things seem hopeless.
Opened on Thursday 5th January, Transform Housing & Support will be running a winter shelter during the coldest and wettest months of the year, but a further £15,000 still needs to be raised from voluntary donations.
