Starts at Home Day 2024 – celebrating the power of supported housing

On Friday, 30 August, Transform is proud to participate in Starts at Home Day 2024 – an event dedicated to highlighting the value of support services and the profound impact having a safe and secure place to call home can make to people’s lives.

Starts at Home Day is an annual opportunity to shine a spotlight on the benefits of supported housing and to reinforce its importance within the housing, health, social care, and criminal justice systems. It is a day to remind everyone that supported housing is not just a service but an essential part of our social fabric.

For over 50 years, Transform has been at the forefront of this mission, empowering more than 30,000 individuals to find a home and lead more independent and fulfilling lives. Many of our clients have faced the harsh realities of homelessness, social exclusion and complex health challenges. We provide more than just a roof over their heads; we offer a safe space where they can gain stability, develop essential skills, and build confidence.

In the face of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, Transform’s services are more crucial than ever. Issues such as insecure housing, poverty, discrimination, stigma, and inequality have only intensified. Our commitment goes beyond providing homes; we are dedicated to enabling people lead happier, healthier lives.

We recognise the urgent need for a long-term strategy for supported housing. Without it, thousands of people – like those we assist – could be left without the support they need, placing greater strain on public resources and forcing individuals who could otherwise live independently into long-term institutional care or homelessness.

This year, on Starts at Home Day, we aim to emphasise to the new Labour government the critical importance of delivering robust support for supported housing and its residents. At Transform, our vision is clear: we aspire to extend our reach and support even more people in the future.

Ultimately, our goal is to work in partnership with others to eradicate homelessness and ensure that everyone in need receives the essential support they deserve.
