Upon his retirement, David became a Trustee of Transform in 2000, becoming Vice Chair in 2002 and chair in 2004. In 2005 he was appointed as High Sheriff of Surrey, while also serving as Chair of Transform. David retired from the Board in 2011, but remained a very active member of the Advisory Council. David was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June 2012 for his work with Transform and other charities. David serves as a Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey since his appointment in 2007.
David’s contribution to Transform has been immense. In his role as Patron, he will help to promote the work of Transform, raise awareness of Transform and encourage vital support. Commenting on David’s appointment, Transform Chief Executive Paul Mitchell said:
"David has contributed an enormous amount to Transform over the years and has had significant input into developing the charity. He has spearheaded several fundraising events on behalf of Transform and was instrumental in planning Transform’s 40th birthday celebrations in 2012. David remains one of Transform’s most loyal supporters and is very well-known and well-respected, both throughout Surrey and beyond. The charity is much stronger and better known as a result of David’s endeavours. We are very grateful to David and also to his wife Pam who supports him in all he does."
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Hypher said:
"I am surprised, flattered and honoured by the invitation from Transform’s Board to become a Patron. I am happy to accept the invitation and I will do my best to support the vital work of Transform in any way that I can."
