Transform to launch winter homeless shelter

Transform Housing & Support has received planning permission for a temporary winter shelter in Elmbridge.

The shelter will launch in mid-January and will provide emergency overnight accommodation for up to five people. In very poor weather there will be an extra three beds, bringing the total to eight.

Transform is working with Elmbridge Borough Council, Elmbridge Rentstart, Walton on Thames Charity, Thames Homeless Project  and Paragon Community Housing Group on this project.

Anyone who needs accommodation will need to be assessed off-site by Transform, Rentstart or the Council. Successful applicants will then have a place booked for them at the shelter. We will not be able to accept anyone who turns up at the shelter without a place booked.

Andrea Cannon, Director of Client Strategy & Delivery, said:

"I am very pleased that our application for planning permission has been successful. This means that there will be an emergency shelter for local people from the Elmbridge area who find themselves homeless this winter. We are very grateful to all our partners who have helped bring the project to this stage and to the many local people and organisations who have supported this initiative and offered to volunteer."

If you would be interested in volunteering at the project please contact Elmbridge Rentstart enquiries@elmbridgerentstart.org.uk. If you would like to make a donation in support of the shelter, please visit our donation page.
